As a kid growing up I remember my dad blasting soul tunes. The O'Jays, Johnny Guitar Watson, Zapp, Barry White and many others. On a daily bases he would reminisce good times through music.
These artist marked my dad's glory days. A few of those jams came with a little dance and a story, usually about how convincing he was with the ladies. Now those days and nights of loud music and story telling register in my mind as good times.
As a child I can remember a lot of those tunes. As a matter of fact they still play today in my mind, marking memories of happiness and family. I can remember walking downtown Florence with my brother and friends to McCant's Records to get the latest record or tape. Music during those times made people smile, dance and feel good.
Today music has took a turn. Radio is a joke. There's only a few hours during the day where most would even consider listening. Programmer's hourly repeat and pay for play methods have forced us to tune out and opt for alternatives such as Pandora or Satellite radio for variety.
A huge majority of today's music doesn't move you. Think about it... How many recently released tunes give you that feel good vibe? Most artist are less creative and slaves to trends. Seems like every song sounds like the last. The ideas of creativity, substance and originality are challenged by few.
Almost every song tries to puts you in a impaired club mood which is cool for some but no not realistic. Where's the music you can enjoy while sober...? I often wonder what today's youth will consider feel good music when they reach their later years.
Today I will start to compile a feel good music play list. Tunes that spark good feelings, memories and a productive vibe. No matter if you're relaxing, working or getting a little exercise, these songs make you feel good. Songs that put you in a space, forcing you to open the time capsule attached and reminisce.
I will include a link to play the tune, a link for purchase and a video if available.
Please provide your comments, memories and feedback.
Thanks Family

ReplyDeleteI think you hit the nail on the head with this post.
Music SHOULD move you. If it doesn't, then it's not music. I'm not sure how people stomach today's music. Thank God we grew up on some great music. It laid the foundation for us
